Affordable Housing
Project Vida values the access to affordable and decent housing. In the Affordable housing program, the housing departments owns or manages many apartment complexes, duplexes and single family homes of 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms for qualifying low- and moderate-income families in the greater El Paso area. All Project Vida properties are clean, safe, well maintained; have easy access to public transportation, schools and other services; and enhance the neighborhoods where they are located.

NOW Leasing
This program started in May of 1995, first with 8 units in the central area of El Paso. It was created out of a need for affordable housing, and was discovered that even if people could afford their rent, that did not mean they had the resources to manage the up-keep of their propriety. As well, other services such as those from the department of housing and urban development that exist for the purpose of affordable housing have long waiting-list, and more short-term solutions were needed during the procedures of long-term solutions.
In 2006, Project Vida also became part of a tax credit program, which has allowed for people to have lower rents and lower payments.
Current Services
Currently, Project Vida operates and maintains 15 complexes, in various neighborhoods of El Paso. Through the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Project Vida provides these units at affordable rents and ensures the maintenance of these properties, for families who qualify.
We now offer units operated in the North East, the West, and the Central areas!
The Affordable Housing program is also working with local neighborhood stabilization programs to fix and rent out formerly foreclosed homes at affordable rates to families.
accessing service
To receive these services, people will qualify on the basis of the HUD income guidelines and the size of their family. The rent for these units are not based on a sliding scale program, and it may be necessary to explore multiple options for long-term solutions. However, anyone who needs assistance with housing is encouraged to make an appointment with the affordable housing program. Walk-in appointments are available, but scheduling ahead of time is preferred. The housing department is located on the first floor of the central administration building, right across from the main entrance on Rivera street.
