After-School Enrichment & Youth Development Program
The After-School Enrichment & Youth Development program was created out of a need for safe and productive spaces for youth to go to after they were let out of school. It is meant to serve individuals who may be too old for supervisory programs who could still benefit from a recreational, youth-orientated space, as well as younger children who needed after-school care. It is one of the original community development programs of Project Vida.

About the Program
The After-School Enrichment & Youth Development Program encourages school-age children and youth to be self-confident, self-directed, cooperative, and creative. Age-appropriate, evidence-based curricula underpin the program pointing kids away from high-risk behaviors and activities such as smoking, drug and alcohol use, bullying, truancy, and gang involvement. After-School Enrichment & Youth Development is not child care but rather a prevention program. Offering a safe, nurturing, supervised environment during after-school hours and school breaks, participants enjoy assistance with homework, literacy and reading programs, computer and internet instruction, structured play, arts and crafts, field trips, community service activities, and intergenerational mentoring. A College Readiness program targets middle and high school students with presentations and information on career options, financial aid, and field trips to local campuses. As well, during school day programs, the program offers free snacks to youth, and during break programs, offers lunch and snacks for no cost.

Art Projects
The After-School Enrichment and Youth Development program works with the El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department, MCAD, to create exhibitions of art with the students in the program. Currently, the students are working on a set of drawings, paintings, and sculptures, to create alebrijes, flying animal-hybrids, based off a art style origionating from Mexico in the 1930s. This exhibit will be going on display in July.
